Fire In The City, Doggies Everywhere And Some Graffiti Along the Rio Mapocho

Hello Folks,
I am back again with some inner city shots of Santiago, Chile. I
managed to cover some cool graffiti along the Rio Mapocho and some photos of my buddies dogs that seem to swarm around him and I covered a neighborhood fire that had burned down a local eatery two blocks from where I live. I hope the people that suffered the fire, were able to find shelter and that they did not lose to much of their lives when their small establishment went up in flames.
Also, note that in much of Latin America the fire departments are ran on a volunteer basis and they survive by donations and fund raisers. When the fire alarm sounds throughout the city, the guys come running and risk their lives for not one penny.  Much respect for these heroes.

Enjoy!

I was pretty sure that this was the owners of the property that was on fire. I realize the place is covered with graffiti, but it was not a dump but a functioning business and just about every older building in Santiago is covered with graffiti and it is no way an indication of the value of the property.

I was surprised at how close everybody could get to the fire and the fire department doing their duties. The crowd off on lookers only moved away after they water began to rain down on the fire and the smoke kicked back into everybody's faces. Here the police if finally closing off a section of the street.

The firemen are on the roof fighting the fire.

Some local 'fresh' kid wanted his picture taken and thought I might be the media.

We clean our dog Chiqui about two or three times a month during the summer and she is a little grumpy about it but feels better in the end. Here my wife Lidice does the drying stage.

After eating lunch just about everyday our silly little dog has a funny ritual she performs and so I thought I would make a silly little video about it.

I go over to the other side of the city to hang out with some buddies and play pool and drink beer and this is Martin with three of his four dogs which dominate the landscape inside and out of the house.

Here my friend Fred takes a shot on the pool table.

Late, late into the night/morning with the boys.

Here is some images of my trip back down through the city along the Rio Mapocho and the cool graffiti that lines the stone banks of the cobblestone river.

Alexie Sanchez is a national hero that was instrumental in Chile defeating the long time rival Argentina in the Copa America this past winter here in Chile and his photo for advertisements are everywhere.
